Every commission starts with what you already have: a story, a stack of papers, a memory worth holding onto.

I work in analog collage, built entirely from found and gifted materials: old letters, ledgers, wallpaper, children's books, whatever paper has lived a life before it reaches my table. A commission is a chance to build that same kind of piece around something personal to you.

Sometimes that means sending me the materials yourself (old cards, ticket stubs, a loved one's handwriting). Sometimes it means I go looking for what fits.

The Process

Although each commission is a unique collaboration, here is a typical process:

Step 1

We start with a conversation. The goal is to uncover anything particularly important that should be included.

Who is this artwork for? What memories are being preserved and honored? Are there any materials that you would like included? What size piece are you looking for?

Step 2

I familiarize myself with the materials (either original or digital versions), and begin to lay out how I’d like to use them. At the same time, I gather additional papers based on general themes and any important symbolism. 

Before moving forward, it is important to decide if you would like the piece on paper and framed, or on a wooden panel. The final price includes the cost of framing, labor, and shipping or delivery

STEP 3

After finalizing the concept, I begin creating the piece. Every cut is made by hand with an X-Acto knife.

Step 4

You receive the final image of the work before the piece ships, framed or unframed based on what you choose.

  • A Home's History

    A couple who'd just moved into a historic home found a stash of papers left behind in the attic, decades old and half-forgotten. I dug into the house's history at the local genealogy library and wove it all into a piece that now hangs where it was found.

    A 40th Birthday Surprise

    For a friend's husband's 40th birthday, envelopes went out to family and friends across the country asking for handwritten notes, ticket stubs, and mementos to mail back. Everything that came in became the piece.

    To mark a first wedding anniversary (the traditional gift is paper), a couple who met on a dating app had every email from their courtship printed and folded into the collage.
